Alternator

Your car’s alternator is what generates the electricity to power all your car’s electrical accessories like your stereo, onboard computer, etc. On top of that, it needs to recharge your battery; so when your alternator isn’t working properly, you’re not going anywhere.

Car’s alternators are driven by your serpentine belt, which spins 2-3 times faster than your engine. That amount of spinning eventually causes the bearings, coils and magnets to wear out. Sooner or later, the alternator belt will dry out and crack too, because over time belts lose their ability to expand and contract. One sudden malfunction of these relatively inexpensive (but important) parts can have costly consequences, that’s why our qualified technicians have the expertise to detect many potential belt and car hose problems before they happen, simply by doing a visual inspection.

You should also pay attention to the mileage on your car and compare it to your vehicle manufacturer’s recommended service intervals to avoid having your alternator fail on you at the wrong time.

Drum Brakes

Some vehicles have disc brakes on the front, and drum brakes on the rear. Drum brakes are essential to your safety, and a thorough brake inspection will uncover any maintenance or repair issues that need to be addressed to keep you stopping safely. If you are hearing unusual sounds when you brake or if your pedal is too hard to push or has a mushy feel, bring your vehicle in for a brake inspection right away.

A break inspection will find problems early on, like break components, or if it’s time to replace the shoes. Some people ignore the warning signs and keep driving long after the shoes are completely worn out. When that happens, metal brake components will grind against the drum, damaging it enough that it’ll need to be replaced.

Disc Brakes

With disc brakes, brakes pad rub on a disc to slow the wheels, so it’s normal that they wear out eventually. Replacing pads is a straightforward repair, so if you’re hearing unusual sounds when you brake, or if your brake pedal is feeling squishy or too hard, bring your vehicle in to your local NAPA AUTOPRO service centre and let us perform a disc brake inspection for you. Your technician can inspect all the brake components and tell you if it’s time to replace the pads, the disc or any other component.

That’s important because if you have worn out pads, metal brake components can grind on the rotors, damaging it enough that it needs to be resurfaced or replaced. Regular disc inspections keep your brakes working safely, on top of helping you avoid costly brake component repairs in the future.
